Abstract

Social justice in Australia and Oceania have evolved through complex historical processes. It is shaped by Indigenous governance practices, European colonisation and struggles for equality, recognition and self-determination, the latter continue to contribute to today's disputes of Indigenous rights, welfare policy, environmental justice and regional development. Australia’s and Oceania’s Indigenous societies were diverse and maintained a range of systems of governance, law and social organisation prior to European colonisation in Australia.
